The lines of the songs below are written three times:
a) phonetic transcription from either Eastern or Western Armenian (depending on the source);
My transcriptions are not direct transliterations, they are phonetically adapted to render such sounds as epenthetic vowels (that don't show up in standard Armenian orthography) in order to maximize their recognition by people who do not read or speak Armenian.
b) translated word for word;
The goal of this line is to allow intermediate speakers of Armenian to recognize the words, especially if they are only familiar with one of the two modern varieties of the language. The glosses do not render gender, number or other agreement suffixes when they do not show up in the structure of Armenian. Pronominal subjects are often omitted in Armenian; when that is the case, I cite them in parentheses.
