For Research in Celiac Disease, Dermatitis Herpetiformis and Gluten Related Disorders

Award

An award of up to $5,000 is offered by the Canadian Celiac Association (CCA) for work done in Canada (or by an investigator from Canada temporarily working elsewhere and committed to return to Canada) of a scientific, applied science, medical, and/or social nature relevant to celiac disease (gluten-induced enteropathy), dermatitis herpetiformis or other gluten related disorders.

2021 –2023 – Over the next three years, CCA has an interest in research that addresses under-investigated populations (including indigenous, impoverished, newcomer, racialized and vulnerable communities) and celiac disease; however, applications are not limited to this subject area.

Eligibility

The individual must be a trainee in a recognized Medical or Health Sciences School, University Undergraduate, or Graduate Training Program.

  2. Current CN

From the mentor/supervisor (2-page limit):

  1. Assessment of the applicant
  2. Statement of commitment to facilitating the project
  3. Statement regarding how the work will enhance the applicant’s training

From the applicant or mentor/supervisor:

  1. Project goals, rationale, and paragraph summary of research suitable for the public
  2. Description of the research including aims, methods, and statement about how the research will advance knowledge. Limit to two (2) pages plus appropriate supportive references
  3. ltemized budget for salary, materials, supplies and services (1 page). Travel will not be funded

If this award is sought in conjunction with the JA Campbell Research Grant, include a statement outlining how the funds for each award will be separately used.

Deadline:

Applications must be received no later than February 15, 2021, and each will be acknowledged. The Celiac Association office will forward these applications to the Professional Advisory Council for adjudication.

Adjudication

The Professional Advisory Council of the Canadian Celiac Association will decide regarding the winner or winners, based on the suitability and quality of the proposed work. The recommendation of the Profession al Advisory Council will be forwarded to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Celiac Association for ratification.

Notification

The successful candidate will be formally notified by April 28, 2021.

Award

The Award is payable in full following the CCA’s decision, and upon receipt or notice from the investigator of appropriate ethics approval and that the project is ready to start.

Reporting

The applicant will submit to the CCA an interim or final report at the one-year anniversary date and a final report upon completion of the project.

Publicity and Access

The Award recipient(s) may be expected to present their work following its completion at the next National Conference or special webinar of the Canadian Celiac Association. If there are any expenses to attend or participate in these meetings, they will be covered by the Canadian Celiac Association in accordance with CCA’s guidelines Notwithstanding the author’s rights to publication, the CCA shall be granted the right to publish the final report, whole or in part, in its publications including electronically.
