Chaire de recherche du MRNF sur les espèces aquatiques exploitées

Le programme de recherche de la Chaire a pour principal objectif de répondre spécifiquement aux besoins de connaissances en matière de gestion des espèces aquatiques exploitées au Québec tout en assurant la formation de spécialistes dans le domaine. La programmation scientifique de la Chaire s’articulera autour de quatre principaux axes de recherche :

  1. Le suivi des populations exploitées
    • Développer un modèle d’évaluation du rendement halieutique de l’omble de fontaine;
    • Déterminer la stratégie de reproduction de l’alose savoureuse du Saint-Laurent et du nombre de populations existantes;
    • Déterminer l’utilisation de l’habitat et de la diète des post-saumoneaux de la ouananiche du lac Saint-Jean et de l’importance du cannibalisme comme facteur de régulation de l’abondance de l’éperlan arc-en-ciel du Lac-Saint-Jean.
  1. Le suivi de l’exploitation de la ressource
    • Caractériser l’effort, le succès et la qualité de la récolte en vue d’accroître la possibilité d’exploitation pour les pêcheurs;
    • Prédire l’évolution de l’état de la ressource;
    • Mesurer l’efficacité des modes de gestion;
    • Fixer un niveau d’exploitation qui respecte la capacité de support des écosystèmes et l’acceptabilité sociale;
    • Évaluer les effets bénéfiques des actions de restauration et d’aménagement sur la qualité des activités de prélèvement.
  1. La préservation, restauration et aménagement des habitats fauniques
    • Déterminer la capacité de support du Lac-Saint-Jean pour l’éperlan arc-en-ciel;
    • Déterminer l’importance relative des populations d’éperlans arc-en-ciel dans l’alimentation de la ouananiche;
    • Étudier l’adaptation du saumon atlantique aux changements environnementaux.
  1. Le support aux populations fauniques exploitées
    • Proposer des types d’intervention pour restaurer les stocks exploités, pallier à des mortalités importantes ou créer de nouvelles opportunités de mise en valeur des populations s’inscrivant dans les nouvelles lignes directrices sur les ensemencements de poisson du Gouvernement du Québec.

Chair of Research of MRNF on Exploited Aquatic Species

The main objective of Chair of Research program is to specifically answer to the information needs pertaining to management of exploited aquatic species of Quebec and simultaneously insuring the training of specialists in the domain. The scientific aspects of this chair are based on four main axes of research:

  1. The monitoring of exploited population
    • To develop an evaluation model of the halieutic yields of trout;
    • To determine a reproduction strategy for alosa of the St-Lawrence River and of the number of existing populations;
    • To determine the use of habitat and the diet of post-salmonets of Lake St-Jean’s landlocked salmon and the importance of cannibalism as factor of abundance regulation of Lake St-Jean smelt;
  2. The monitoring of exploitation of the resource
    • To characterise efforts, success and quality of harvesting in view of increasing the exploitation possibility of fishermen;
    • To predict the evolution of the state of the resource;
    • To measure management modality efficiency;
    • To set an exploitation level that respects the support capacity of ecosystems and social acceptability.
    • To evaluate the beneficial effects of restoration and development actions on the quality of sampling activity.
  3. Preservation, restoration and development of faunistic habitats
    • To determine the support capacity of Lake St-Jean pertaining to smelt;
    • To determine the relative importance of smelt population pertaining to landlocked salmon diet;
    • To study the adaptation to environmental changes of the Atlantic salmon.
  4. Support to exploited faunistic populations
    • To propose types of interventions to restore the exploited stocks, to compensate to important mortality or create new enhancement opportunities of populations registered in the new Quebec Government guidelines on fish sowing.
