Terms and conditions

The mission of RIA-UQAC is to identify and facilitate contacts between foreign business people and those of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region and the province of Quebec through its network of international students graduated from the university.

The original version of this document is written in French (Canada). Please make sure that its understanding is total and complete. By clicking on "Register" you have read, understood and accepted the terms and conditions for using RIA-UQAC.

1. Terms and conditions

1.1 Definitions

  1. By "RIA-UQAC" we mean features and services including offers, requests, news and services that we make available through our website at www.uqac.ca/riauqac.
  2. By "us", "we" and "our" we mean the RIA-UQAC team and its administrators.
  3. By "Platform" we mean a set of applications and services that enable others to retrieve data from RIA-UQAC or provide data to us.
  4. By "information" we mean facts and other information about you, including actions you take.
  5. By "content" we mean anything you post on RIA-UQAC that would not be included in the definition of "information".
  6. By "data" we mean content and information that third parties can retrieve from RIA-UQAC or provide to RIA-UQAC through the Platform.
  7. By "post" we mean any material you post on RIA-UQAC or otherwise make available to us.
  8. By "use" we mean use, copy, display, distribute, modify, translate, and create any derivative works of.
  9. This document is based on the user principles of the RIA-UQAC Platform and governs our relationship with users and others who interact with RIA-UQAC.

1.2 Sharing your content and information

You are responsible for all of the content and information you post in your offers and requests on RIA-UQAC, and you can control how it is shared through the public area. Note that all posts will be verified and modified if necessary. Corrections will be made in accordance with our posting policy and concern mainly sentence structure and grammar in the French and English languages only.

  2. The trademarks and logos used or displayed on RIA-UQAC cannot be interpreted in a way that would allow, directly or indirectly, the use of those trademarks or logos without the prior written permission of their owner.
  3. C. Once you delete your intellectual property content, these contents are automatically deleted. However, deleted contents may remain within backup copies for some time, but they are not available.
  4. D. We always appreciate your feedback or other suggestions to RIA-UQAC, however you understand that we may use them without any obligation to compensate you for them.

1.3 Limitation of liabilities

The RIA-UQAC website and items contained in it are offered gratuitously, without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including, without limitation, warranties of title or implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, use, availability, validity, accuracy, reliability of the items reproduced on said sites or as to the results ensuing from the use of such items. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, RIA-UQAC declines any liability for damages, whether they be direct, indirect or incidental, regardless of their nature, ensuing from the use of RIA-UQAC.

1.4 Security

RIA-UQAC users must provide their real names and information. Here are some conditions that you commit to fulfilling for registration and the security of your profile:

  1. You will not provide any false personal information on RIA-UQAC or create a profile for another person without his/her permission. You will enter accurate and up-to-date contact information.
  2. You will only use RIA-UQAC if you are a graduated student from UQAC, a UQAC employee or partner, an entrepreneur or organization who has been invited by one of these two groups, or someone who is interested in international relations.
  3. You are not to jeopardize the security of your profile. You agree to maintain the confidentiality of your password and any other identity information connected to your user account. You take full responsibility for all use of your account, whether it be by yourself or a third party.
  4. If you select a username for your profile that we deem to be inappropriate, we will ask you to change it. If the changes are not made within 30 days, we reserve the right to remove your account.

1.5 Protecting others’ rights

  1. You will not post content or undertake any action on the RIA-UQAC Platform that could infringe others’ rights or otherwise violate the law.
  2. If you infringe the intellectual property rights of a third party on one or several occasions, we reserve the right to delete your profile without notice.
  3. You will not use our name (RIA or RIA-UQAC), our Logo or any other similar trademark that could be confused with our own, without our written permission.

1.6 Terms applicable to shared links

If you send offers or requests on RIA-UQAC, this information will be shared publicly and the following conditions will apply to your proposals:

  1. We give you permission to share links on RIA-UQAC in order to direct users to another website. However, RIA-UQAC does not undertake to check the accessibility and content of links or references. Therefore, RIA-UQAC assumes no responsibility for the content of other websites, including the information or material posted on them or the products and services offered on them.
  2. You give us permission to use and allow others to use such links and content on RIA-UQAC.
  3. You will not post a link on RIA-UQAC whose contents would infringe our rules and regulations.
  4. You accept that your content and information will be transferred and processed in Canada.

1.7 Litigation

By using RIA-UQAC, you agree that these Terms and conditions are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the applicable laws in Canada, without reference to principles of conflicts of laws. You thus agree to be bound by these laws and to submit to the jurisdiction of the court of the District of Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada in respect to the interpretation or application of these Terms and conditions.

In the event of a complaint brought against us, following your actions, your content or your information published on RIA-UQAC, you will indemnify RIA-UQAC for any loss, liability, claim, request, expenses and fees, including reasonable attorney’s fees, relating to the complaint.

1.8 General terms

  1. These terms constitute the entire agreement between the parties regarding RIA-UQAC and supersede any previous agreements.
  2. Each of the terms shall be construed separately and the nullity of one of them does not invalidate any other terms contained herein.
  3. You will not transfer your rights or obligations to third parties without our consent.
  4. No terms of this agreement shall prevent us from complying with the law.
  5. These terms do not confer any rights to third-party sponsors and partners.
  6. If you infringe the code or the spirit of this document, or create a risk for a lawsuit against the RIA-UQAC team, we can close your profile and send you a written notice by email. You may also delete your profile or cancel your application at any time.

    We may change or modify this document by notifying you via the home page under “terms and conditions” on the RIA-UQAC website. We could make changes for legal or administrative purposes or to correct a misrepresentation.

2. User Guide for RIA-UQAC

2.1 Information we receive

Applications for new users: Each new user will be automatically approved. In the event of inappropriate use of the Platform or of the user’s personal profile, we reserve the right to withdraw the user’s account once we have advised him/her of such action.

Information about yourself: When you sign up to RIA-UQAC you provide us with your name and email address (minimum fields required). Afterwards, you will have to create your personal profile with information about your occupation, current employment, last educational institution attended, training, etc. Once registered, you can provide other optional personal information such as your country, city and languages spoken.

Information about other users: We offer search tools to help you find offers and requests that may be of interest to you. You may also invite your business contacts and colleagues who have graduated from the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi (UQAC) and its affiliated partners (and others mentioned in 1.3 B.) who do not yet have a RIA-UQAC profile.

2.2 Private information on RIA-UQAC

Personal information: Your personal information settings allow you to control and modify them at any time.

Profile data: RIA-UQAC was designed to help you better meet your professional needs. Users cannot access your profile nor the central data bank. Only administrators have a secured code allowing them to access the data bank. Administrators cannot make any changes to your profile.

Contact information: Users interested in your offer or request may contact you directly if, and only if, you ask us to include your personal contact information below your post. You can ask the Platform administrators to make the link between you and the third party, so they can receive the answers and then send them to you.

Backups: We keep backup copies of deleted information, but it cannot be accessed by third parties.

Password security: You agree to maintain the security and confidentiality of your password, to prevent others from using your profile, to refrain from using the profile of other users and to not transfer your RIA-UQAC profile to a third party. You are responsible for all use of your profile.

2.3 Information you communicate to third parties:

RIA-UQAC Platform: We do not own or operate the applications or websites that you use through the RIA-UQAC Platform. This means that when you use these applications or websites, you authorize entities other than RIA-UQAC to access the information you post in the public space.

Exporting Information: You may use tools like RSS feeds or copy and paste functions to capture, export or import information from RIA-UQAC, including your information and information about you.

Content: One of the primary reasons people use RIA-UQAC is to share offers and requests related to their professional work. If you want the content that you share publicly to target only those users who are interested in your offer or request, post them on the private discussion board.

Respect of users (public and private sections)

  1. You will not send or otherwise post unauthorized commercial communications (such as spam) on RIA-UQAC.
  2. You will not engage in any illegal activities or recruiting, such as for a pyramid scheme, on RIA-UQAC.
  3. You will not upload viruses or other malicious codes.
  4. You will not solicit login information or access an account belonging to someone else.
  5. You will not bully or harass any user.
  6. You will not post content that is hateful, threatening, pornographic, incites violence or contains nudity or gratuitous violence.
  7. You will not develop or operate an application containing alcohol-related or other mature content.
  8. You will not use RIA-UQAC for any illegal, malicious, or discriminatory activities.
  9. You will not do anything that could disable or otherwise impair the operation of the RIA-UQAC Platform.
  10. You will not allow or encourage any violations of this document.

2.4 Modifying or deleting your information

Editing your profile: You may change or delete your profile information at any time by going to your profile page and clicking on “Edit”. Your information will be updated immediately.

Deactivating or deleting your account: If you no longer wish to use your profile, you may send an email request to the administrators of RIA-UQAC to delete it by clicking on the link riauqac@uqac.ca. Remember to include your personal contact information. We will send you a confirmation message and the data will be permanently deleted from our data bank.

Limitations on removal: Even after you remove information from your profile or delete your account, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere insofar as it has been shared, copied or stored by other users. However, your name will no longer be associated with that information.

2.5 Information that we send to you and violations

Notifications: Within the context of notices we send you related to services, offers and requests: notifications will consist of an email sent by RIA UQAC to the email address associated with your profile. You agree that the RIA-UQAC team may communicate with you regarding your profile or your public displays if there is a problem.

Contacting you: We may send you information related to services and new offers and requests available on RIA-UQAC. You may deactivate all type of communication by selecting the box saying “I do not wish to receive emails from RIA-UQAC”, available under the tab “Profile”.

Reporting Violations: We recommend that you send us an email regarding any security or ethic violations, as well as any breaches of our policies that you may notice.
