For contributions to the development of anti-icing and self-cleaning coatings for insulators
Dr. Gelareh Momen, P.Eng., is a distinguished researcher, holder of the Institutional Chair on Innovative Anti-Icing Materials (CIMAGI), and Full Professor at the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi (UQAC), Canada. She also leads the International Laboratory on Anti-Icing Materials (LIMA). As a recognized specialist in the development of innovative anti-icing coatings, she collaborates with numerous international researchers to address atmospheric icing challenges.
Originally from Hamdan, Iran, Dr. Momen holds a degree in chemical engineering from Sharif University of Technology, a master’s degree in process engineering from Tehran Polytechnic, and a Ph.D. in process engineering from Paris XIII University. She is a member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec.
After a brief stint as a post-doctoral researcher and grant-based research professor at UQAC’s Department of Applied Sciences, she played a crucial role as an R&D scientist at Bombardier’s Global Completion Center (GCC) in Montreal. In this capacity, she worked closely with various academic and industrial partners. She then joined the faculty of UQAC’s Department of Applied Sciences as a regular professor in mechanical engineering in 2016, eventually becoming a full professor. She teaches engineering courses at all levels and has supervised over thirty students.
Her innovative research focuses on developing practical solutions to protect critical infrastructure, such as power grids, aircraft, and maritime vessels, from the detrimental effects of atmospheric icing and corrosion. She has led several research projects, utilizing her extensive expertise to develop original and innovative approaches.
Throughout her career, Dr. Momen has secured substantial funding from both private and public sectors. Her achievements highlight her exceptional ability to attract financial support for projects characterized by creativity and originality.
Furthermore, Dr. Momen has contributed to the development of various types of anti-icing coatings inspired by nature, demonstrating her ability to innovate in crucial areas for the safety and performance of infrastructure.
A prolific author, Dr. Momen’s contributions span over 150 academic publications, with more than 3,200 citations and an h-index of 30 on Google Scholar. Her international reputation as an expert in her field reflects her ongoing commitment to advancing scientific research and her dedication to solving the most pressing technological challenges of our time. Under Dr. Gelareh Momen’s leadership, research activities have generated a wealth of new information, solidifying UQAC as a global leader in the field of innovative anti-icing materials.
