Sous la direction de recherche de <a href=\"https:\/\/portfolio.uqac.ca\/mousajavidani\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mousa Javidani<\/a> (UQAC) et la codirection de Paul Rometsch (Rio Tinto), sa th\u00e8se a pour titre \u00ab<em>Alloying and thermomechanical processing strategies for high-performance aluminum conductors<\/em>\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Sous la pr\u00e9sidence de <a href=\"https:\/\/portfolio.uqac.ca\/lukasdion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lukas Dion<\/a> (UQAC), le jury d&rsquo;\u00e9valuation \u00e9tait compos\u00e9 de <a href=\"https:\/\/portfolio.uqac.ca\/xgrantchen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">X. Grant Chen<\/a> et de Hatem Zurob (Universit\u00e9 McMaster).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>R\u00e9sum\u00e9 de la th\u00e8se<\/h5>\n<p>La demande croissante de conducteurs en aluminium \u00e0 haute performance pour les syst\u00e8mes de distribution d\u2019\u00e9nergie exige des mat\u00e9riaux pr\u00e9sentant simultan\u00e9ment une r\u00e9sistance m\u00e9canique \u00e9lev\u00e9e et une excellente conductivit\u00e9 \u00e9lectrique. Ce d\u00e9fi est particuli\u00e8rement critique pour les applications de barres omnibus extrud\u00e9es \u00e0 chaud, o\u00f9 le renforcement par \u00e9crouissage apr\u00e8s d\u00e9formation n\u2019est pas envisageable. Le pr\u00e9sent projet r\u00e9pond \u00e0 cette limitation par une \u00e9tude approfondie des strat\u00e9gies de conception d\u2019alliages et des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s thermom\u00e9caniques pour des alliages conducteurs d\u2019aluminium des s\u00e9ries 6xxx et 1xxx, avec des ajouts de Cu, Sc et Zr pour des applications de barres omnibus. Un aspect cl\u00e9 de ce travail est l\u2019adoption du vieillissement direct apr\u00e8s extrusion \u00e0 chaud (T5) de barres en forme de bandes, au lieu du traitement conventionnel T6 (mise en solution suivie de vieillissement). Le vieillissement direct offre des avantages importants, notamment une r\u00e9duction du temps de traitement et de la consommation d\u2019\u00e9nergie, ainsi que la pr\u00e9servation des microstructures induites par la d\u00e9formation, favorables au renforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Toutefois, en l\u2019absence de mise en solution, les param\u00e8tres thermom\u00e9caniques, en particulier la temp\u00e9rature de pr\u00e9chauffage avant d\u00e9formation, jouent un r\u00f4le d\u00e9terminant dans la distribution des atomes de solut\u00e9 sursatur\u00e9s et, par cons\u00e9quent, dans le comportement de pr\u00e9cipitation lors du vieillissement. Ainsi, une conception rigoureuse du chemin de d\u00e9formation, combin\u00e9e \u00e0 une optimisation du traitement de vieillissement, est essentielle pour obtenir un compromis efficace entre r\u00e9sistance et conductivit\u00e9 \u00e9lectrique.<\/p>\n<details>\n<summary><strong>Voir plus<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>La premi\u00e8re phase du projet examine l\u2019effet des ajouts de Cu (0,15\u20130,4 % massique) sur le comportement en d\u00e9formation \u00e0 chaud d\u2019un alliage conducteur Al-Mg-Si, en mettant l\u2019accent sur l\u2019influence des param\u00e8tres de proc\u00e9d\u00e9 sur la conductivit\u00e9 \u00e9lectrique et les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s m\u00e9caniques. Des essais de compression \u00e0 chaud ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9s \u00e0 450 \u00b0C et 550 \u00b0C, avec des vitesses de d\u00e9formation comprises entre 0,1 et 10 s\u207b\u00b9. Les r\u00e9sultats montrent qu\u2019\u00e0 450 \u00b0C, l\u2019ajout de \u22640,3 % Cu augmente l\u00e9g\u00e8rement la contrainte d\u2019\u00e9coulement (jusqu\u2019\u00e0 8,2 %), tandis que 0,4 % Cu entra\u00eene une augmentation significative (15\u201325,2 %). \u00c0 550 \u00b0C, l\u2019effet du Cu diminue fortement (&lt;3,5 %), notamment \u00e0 faible vitesse de d\u00e9formation. L\u2019\u00e9nergie d\u2019activation augmente de 143,9 \u00e0 173,3 kJ\/mol avec 0,15\u20130,4 % Cu, indiquant une r\u00e9sistance accrue \u00e0 la d\u00e9formation. Le Cu ralentit la restauration dynamique et r\u00e9duit la taille des sous-grains ainsi que la d\u00e9sorientation moyenne des joints de grains. Globalement, les alliages d\u00e9form\u00e9s \u00e0 450 \u00b0C pr\u00e9sentent une duret\u00e9 inf\u00e9rieure de 8 \u00e0 20 %, mais une conductivit\u00e9 \u00e9lectrique plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e (1,0\u20132,5 % IACS) que ceux d\u00e9form\u00e9s \u00e0 550 \u00b0C apr\u00e8s 8 h et 24 h de vieillissement, bien que cet \u00e9cart diminue \u00e0 24 h. Ce comportement est attribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la formation de pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9s \u03b2-Mg\u2082Si grossiers \u00e0 450 \u00b0C, qui am\u00e9liorent la conductivit\u00e9 mais r\u00e9duisent la duret\u00e9. L\u2019allongement du vieillissement de 8 h \u00e0 24 h augmente l\u00e9g\u00e8rement la conductivit\u00e9 (1\u20132,7 % IACS) avec une diminution minimale de la duret\u00e9 (&lt;4 HV). L\u2019alliage contenant 0,3 % Cu pr\u00e9sente le meilleur compromis, atteignant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 75 HV (20\u201330 % de plus que l\u2019alliage de base), avec une faible variation de la r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la d\u00e9formation et une conductivit\u00e9 de 52,4\u201354,1 % IACS conforme aux normes.<\/p>\n<p>La deuxi\u00e8me phase du projet \u00e9tudie l\u2019effet du pr\u00e9chauffage avant extrusion (420 \u00b0C contre 480 \u00b0C) et des strat\u00e9gies de vieillissement direct (en une et deux \u00e9tapes) sur la pr\u00e9cipitation, la microstructure et les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s des alliages Al\u20130,1Sc\u20130,1Zr (% massique). Les r\u00e9sultats montrent qu\u2019un pr\u00e9chauffage plus faible (420 \u00b0C) limite le grossissement pr\u00e9coce et favorise une forte densit\u00e9 de particules fines coh\u00e9rentes Al3Sc\/Al3(Sc,Zr) de structure L1\u2082 apr\u00e8s vieillissement, am\u00e9liorant ainsi la r\u00e9sistance. Le vieillissement en deux \u00e9tapes (300 \u00b0C\/24 h + 400 \u00b0C\/8 h) appliqu\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019alliage extrud\u00e9 \u00e0 420 \u00b0C produit la distribution de pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9s la plus fine (4,41\u00d710\u00b2\u00b9 m\u207b\u00b3), gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la formation d\u2019un coeur riche en Sc suivie d\u2019une diffusion contr\u00f4l\u00e9e du Zr, conduisant \u00e0 une structure coeur\u2013coquille tr\u00e8s stable. Cet \u00e9tat optimis\u00e9 favorise le renforcement par contournement d\u2019Orowan et limite la croissance des sous-grains via une augmentation de la pression de tra\u00een\u00e9e de Zener. Ainsi, la combinaison d\u2019un faible pr\u00e9chauffage (420 \u00b0C) et d\u2019un vieillissement en deux \u00e9tapes permet d\u2019atteindre le meilleur compromis, avec une r\u00e9sistance ultime de 172 MPa et une conductivit\u00e9 de 57,5 % IACS. \u00c0 l\u2019inverse, les alliages extrud\u00e9s \u00e0 480 \u00b0C pr\u00e9sentent un grossissement important des pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9s, r\u00e9duisant la r\u00e9sistance et la stabilit\u00e9 thermique.<\/p>\n<p>La troisi\u00e8me phase analyse l\u2019effet de la temp\u00e9rature de d\u00e9formation \u00e0 chaud sur l\u2019\u00e9volution microstructurale de l\u2019alliage Al\u20130,1 % Sc et son impact sur l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 du vieillissement isotherme. Des essais de compression ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9s entre 350 et 550 \u00b0C \u00e0 une vitesse de d\u00e9formation de 1 s\u207b\u00b9 et une d\u00e9formation vraie de 0,8, suivis d\u2019un vieillissement \u00e0 300 \u00b0C pendant 24 h. Les r\u00e9sultats montrent qu\u2019une d\u00e9formation \u00e0 450 \u00b0C entra\u00eene l\u2019augmentation la plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e de la contrainte d\u2019\u00e9coulement (39,7 %), tandis qu\u2019\u00e0 550 \u00b0C, la contrainte est minimale et comparable \u00e0 celle de l\u2019aluminium pur. Apr\u00e8s vieillissement, les conditions de d\u00e9formation \u00e0 350 \u00b0C et 550 \u00b0C offrent le meilleur compromis entre conductivit\u00e9 (58,5\u201359 % IACS) et duret\u00e9 (70\u201371 HV). En revanche, \u00e0 450 \u00b0C, la duret\u00e9 est minimale (51 HV), soit une r\u00e9duction d\u2019environ 28 %. Les analyses MET r\u00e9v\u00e8lent que cette faible duret\u00e9 est due \u00e0 la formation de pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9s Al\u2083Sc grossiers et h\u00e9t\u00e9rog\u00e8nes lors du pr\u00e9chauffage, contrairement aux temp\u00e9ratures de 350 \u00b0C et 550 \u00b0C qui favorisent la formation uniforme de nanoparticules L12 lors du vieillissement.<\/p>\n<p>Les r\u00e9sultats sont valid\u00e9s par des essais d\u2019extrusion \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle industrielle, mettant en \u00e9vidence l\u2019influence du pr\u00e9chauffage des billettes, de la vitesse de refroidissement et des conditions de vieillissement sur la microstructure et les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s finales.
