Extensive research has been carried out on polyurethane (PU) and a variety of its composites and copolymers as a commercially ideal polymer for various applications due to its diverse properties and easy compositional manipulation. More recently, research is directed towards the use of PU in special applications like superhydrophobicity and/or icephobicity. Although, a great deal of research is done on the subject, however, mechanical stability,  durability, long lifespan, with high substrate adherence, easy to produce, environmentally friendly icephobic PU-coating is yet to find commercial distinction. This academic – industrial collaborative project aims to find novel approaches to overcome these drawbacks and find conclusive answers to problems affiliated with PU-based icephobic coatings in order head in the direction of mass scale commercialization.
