This laboratory has simulation/modelling software and shares some equipment with the ViAHT Chair :
It also has access to the protection laboratory of the Applied Sciences Department, equipped with several protection relays as well as benches emulating networks and generators. This allows studies to be carried out on a scale representative of industrial electrical equipment. It is one of the most important at the Canadian university level.
The MODELE laboratory also has the opportunity to benefit from the access of various resources available at UQAC. Indeed, additional equipment is available at the high voltage laboratory of the Centre International de Recherche sur le Givrage Atmosphérique et l’Ingénierie des Réseaux Électriques (CENGIVRE), one of the largest in Canada, as well as in other laboratories/research centers, for example.
The laboratory has thus access to equipment such as an 800 kV @ 60 kJ pulse generator, 100 to 350 kV AC transformers, 300 kV DC voltage sources, climatic chambers capable of reproducing ambient climatic conditions, a 4000 A AC generator, a modular pulse system up to 200 kV, a lightning pulse generator, an infrared camera, a UV camera (CoroCam IV) and an ultra high-speed image camera (Imacon 200), etc.
These extensive test facilities enable studies to be carried out on a scale representative of industrial electrical equipment. The specially equipped high-voltage climatic chambers also allow us to study the behavior of insulation at low temperatures and in the face of significant temperature variations.
