Classement 2026 de la liberté d’expression dans les universités américaines

Les étudiants hésitent à exprimer librement leurs opinions, surtout sur des sujets politiques controversés. Beaucoup affirment qu’ils pratiquent régulièrement l’autocensure, évitent certains sujets complètement, et doutent que leur administration défende la liberté d’expression en cas de controverse.

La bonne nouvelle : en moyenne, près de trois personnes sur quatre dans 23 pays continuent de penser que les personnes s’identifiant comme LGB (72 %, -5 points depuis 2021) et trans (71 %, -5 points) devraient être protégées contre la discrimination en matière d’emploi, de logement et d’accès aux établissements comme les restaurants et les magasins.

Indice de la liberté académique 2024

L’Argentine figure parmi les nouveaux pays enregistrant un recul dans la mise à jour 2025 de l’Indice de la liberté académique (AFI). […] Ce déclin s’est intensifié après l’élection du président Javier Milei […]. On observe également une corrélation entre la présence de partis anti-pluralistes au pouvoir et l’évolution — à la baisse comme à la hausse — de la liberté académique en Pologne. […] Sous le gouvernement du PiS, la liberté académique a reculé, notamment en ce qui concerne la liberté d’expression dans les domaines académique et culturel, ainsi que l’autonomie des institutions.

Bien que les attaques récentes contre les universités américaines soient d’une nature nouvelle, le recul de la liberté académique aux États-Unis s’est inscrit dans une évolution de plus longue durée. La figure 7 compare l’état de la liberté académique en 2024 à celui de 2014. Elle révèle un déclin notable et statistiquement significatif dans toutes les dimensions de l’AFI par rapport à il y a dix ans, c’est-à-dire avant le premier mandat de Trump.

Le Japon, Israël et les États-Unis enregistrent les plus fortes baisses de soutien à la liberté d’expression depuis 2021. L’Indonésie, la Malaisie et le Pakistan ont montré la plus grande amélioration, mais restent parmi les pays où le soutien à la liberté d’expression est le plus faible.

Degré de confiance envers les publications qui relaient des actualités sur les réseaux sociaux

Environ la moitié (49%) des Québécois affirment faire confiance aux publications relayant des actualités provenant de médias traditionnels, mais pour la plupart (43%), cette confiance est modérée. À l’inverse, 43% affirment leur faire peu ou pas du tout confiance. Ces résultats sont similaires à ce qui avait été observé en 2023.
